IH MALTA organises holiday courses for young people from abroad during the summer vacation. The centre is run as a partnership between IH Malta and the WELS Group, in the UK. Teacher Training is provided by qualified educators who ensure that our teachers are appropriately trained to teach English to students in a holiday environment.
Teachers aim to introduce students to the social and cultural life of the country and to give them both a beneficial and enjoyable stay. During lessons students are provided with an experience of learning English that could not be gained at home.
IH Malta emphasizes that practical English communication is taught in a normal environment, enabling students to cope with the situations they will encounter during their stay. Teachers work effectively under the close supervision of a Director of Studies. The school uses a wide variety of high-quality self-generated materials and methodologies which are backed up by a selection of up-to-date supplementary resource books.
We are aware that we act in loco parentis therefore teachers are aware that they also have non- teaching responsibilities towards the students. Students are not allowed to leave the classroom during lessons (other than to briefly visit the toilet) and students are not allowed to miss lessons, unless they are ill. Students are supervised by teachers when being taught and they are also supervised during the break or if they have to leave the classroom . This is particularly important as we believe that safety is paramount.
Supervision IH Malta aims to help students to operate more confidently in a world where English is the international medium of communication. However this has to be done in a safe and secure environment. Paradise Bay Resort Hotel provides this in abundance. IH Malta provides 24-hour supervision for our students, in order to ensure they safely enjoy their holiday to the full. Students are supervised at the hotel and on organized excursions.
Students are supervised at all times, including meal times and siesta times. All activities are overseen and, in addition to the tour leader, there is one IH Supervisor to every ten students. Shifts are short, so that our supervisors are more alert. Supervisors chosen are dynamic, responsible, and trustworthy and are prepared to help the students at all times. Night supervision is carried out by an organized and licensed agency.
IH Summer in Malta is a full-time commitment. Our task is to help students’ to improve their English and have an enjoyable time in a relaxed, secure and safe environment.
