For visitors, one of the attractions of the Maltese Islands is their size. Even if you are here for only a few days’ stay, you can see and do an incredible amount, from cultural sightseeing to action sports like diving. You won’t waste time getting from A to B. The public transport network of Malta Buses covers nearly all the Islands. Public Transport in Malta is reasonably priced and it's an efficient way to get to your destinations. The main bus terminus is in Valletta just outside the city gate. Most Malta Bus routes leave and go to Valletta - apart from a few circular routes and all pass through it's suburb, Floriana. Malta Buses are orange and show the route numbers on the front. No journey is longer than 25 minutes.
Another option, taking a Taxi, is more expensive than the public transport, but simplifies the trip to and from the airport. To roam around the less-travelled paths, renting a car is possibly the best option. Driving in Malta is on the left, as in the U.K. Car hire rates here are good value compared to other European destinations. Anyone with a Green Card Insurance or National Driving licence can get a temporary driving permit. There are several car hire garages around the island. Another option would be hiring a bicycle so that you can cycle around the island.
And for a slow-paced romantic form of transport, why not try a horse-drawn Karrozin? They offer a bygone way to visit the sites in the key historic places including Mdina and Valletta.
For those who want to enjoy the crystal clear waters around the coast of Malta or visit the quieter, less-populated islands – there are regular ferries to Gozo & Comino. If you want a leisurely day on the high seas, you can also take an island or harbour cruise.
