About Malta

Malta has been a meeting place for a host of people for over 7000 years. Our legacy is a sophisticated society surrounded by living history.

The long relationship between the Islanders and the various nationalities who occupied Malta over the centuries has created a combination of styles and traditions, giving the Islands a fascinating eclectic culture.

Malta is the largest island as well as a cultural, commercial and administrative centre. Gozo is the second largest island and is more rural, characterised by fishing, tourism, crafts and agriculture while Comino is largely uninhabited. With clement weather, a variety of sandy coves and rocky beaches , a thriving nightlife and an intriguing history; there is a great deal to see and do on the Maltese Islands. Walking through quaint villages and discovering captivating places of interest are a must. Prehistoric temples and grand palaces are of great interest to the discerning visitor. UNESCO have given World Heritage recognition to Valletta, The Neolithic Temples and the Hypogeum.

Getting around

The public bus service on Malta is relatively cheap and makes getting around relatively easy. The cost of a bus service ranges from 0.35 to 0.58 the average ride is between twenty to thirty minutes. Renting a car is a good option to explore beyond the bus routes. All the road signs are in English. Direct flights operate from most countries in Europe and other
continents.

Elton John with Ray Cooper

.......Knighted in 1998, Sir Elton has been heavily involved in the fight against AIDS since the late 1980s. He has won five Grammy awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Tony Award.
He had played a memorable solo concert at the granaries in Floriana in 2003, during which he had promised to return in future. For the Malta concert he will be accompanied by Ray Cooper, who has performed with some of the world's finest artists.

Ray Cooper (born 19 August 1942) is an English musician. He is a session and road-tour percussionist, and occasional actor, who has worked with Pink Floyd, Sting, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Elton John. His recording career started in the 1960s, recording with The Who, among others, and is still going strong. Among his early jobs were America, Carly Simon, David Essex, Blue Mink. Most notable was his work with Elton John, for whom he played on most of his 1970s albums. He had also played on Nicky Hopkins' 1973 solo album.

Cooper is also serving as Elton John's percussionist for a small exclusive series of shows, one of which is at the Royal Albert Hall. The proceeds received from the show will help fund a new organ in the main concert hall at the Royal Academy of Music, which Elton John once attended. It will be a solo show but with Ray Cooper on percussion, this will be the first time since 1995 that Cooper and John have played together. This is a repeat of the show in the late seventies that toured extensively across Europe and most notably in Russia. In the 1995 tour the two men performed in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela and Costa Rica.
